One beautiful spring morning in May, the crew at Sigo got up early in the morning, grabbed iced coffee, and raced down the highway, eager to get to work. We arrived at the conference center in Baltimore, MD, steps from Camden Yards, and rode the escalator to the second floor. There, the sun poured through the windows and an energetic hum filled the space. The area was abuzz with hundreds of insurance professionals, networking, attending workshops, and holding meetings. We’d made it and were ready to do business.
Over three days earlier this month, Sigo Seguros had the opportunity to attend the Target Markets Program Administrators (TMPAA) mid-year meeting in Baltimore. An insurance program is a partnership between an insurance carrier and an agent or general agent to work together and insure a specific section of the insurance market. This conference focused specifically on these specific programs, but a broad group of carriers, distributors, and service providers were represented.
The conference’s events gave us an opportunity to dive deep on topics such as claims handling, where technology is poised to revolutionize how business is done. Telematics, Google Earth, and the ubiquity of cell phones promise to help prevent incidents and speed up claims if anything does happen. Walking through the trade show, we saw and met the companies providing technology solutions to insurance agents and general agents: from payments to account management platforms, a host of tools were on display.
However, the real highlights of the conference were the connections we made. Through meetings and impromptu conversations, we began building ties with a wide range of carriers. We got their sense of the market, and discussed details of potential partnerships. Over mini-empanadas and beer, we forged relationships and caught up with friends. The year ahead will bring major growth to Sigo, and the people we met at TMPAA are likely to be a part of that journey.
